Mahaiwe Theater in Great Barrington

The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts offers an exciting night out in the Berkshires. The beautiful historic theater offers music, dance, theater, opera, movies and family programs.


A 108-year-old 680 seat theater in the center of Great Barrington, MA, which is completely restored with great attention to historical detail in 2005. A unique year-round performing arts center presenting approximately 150 world-class music, dance, theater, family programs, classic films and "Live in HD" broadcasts each year in the rural Berkshires. The Mahaiwe's mission is to servce audiences of all ages, interests, and backgrounds, while presenting programs of the highest quality, at affordable ticket prices. With its education programs for public schools, and its many-faceted services to the community, the Mahaiwe is greatly enhancing the quality of life in the region.

There is student pricing available -

Ticket prices vary depending on theatre seating in the Mahaiwe and the performances, but there are special student discounts for some events such as the talk with photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Not only are there musical performances, but showings of movies as well -

Most movies shown at the Mahaiwe are classics such as Sound of Music, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.


What performances are currently being shown at the theatre?

The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center is currently offering in June a screening of Shakespeare’s The Tempest starring Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer, a live cabaret show, We’ll Meet Again: The Songs of Kate Smith with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe, and an artist’s talk with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Are there performances that kids will enjoy?

Absolutely! In July, MOMIX Botanica is a dynamic live performance with music, lights, performers and puppets. There will also be the Sound of Music Sing-along July 14.
